Gold Holds Firm, Silver Falls As Trump Eases Tariff Threats; Check City-Wise Rates On Jan 22

Gold and Silver Rate Today, December 22: Gold and silver prices eased on Thursday as the safe-haven demand soothed following US President Donald Trump’s statement on Greenland, saying that a “framework” for a deal had been reached and stepping back from earlier threats to impose tariffs on European allies.

At the international spot market, silver fell 1.45 per cent to come down to $93.45 per ounce. However, gold remained in an upward momentum to trade close to $4,800 per ounce, a record high.

“We have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

“Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1st,” he added.

Trump’s Greenland pursuit has sparked a wave of concern across the globe, leading investors to run towards the safe-haven – gold and silver, which surged to record levels.

On Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX), a commodity exchange platform in India, gold futures with expiry on February traded 0.40 per cent lower at Rs 1,52,255 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, silver futures with expiry in March traded in green at Rs 3,19,219 per kg around 9:42 AM.

In Mumbai, the price of 24-carat gold stood at Rs 1,56,610 per 10 grams, while 22k gold was available at Rs 1,43,560 per 10 grams. These rates do not include GST

and making charges.

Silver was available at Rs 1,88,900 per kg in the spot market, a nominal drop today.
