A Bengaluru woman has spoken out about rising rent prices in the city, saying that many landlords wrongly assume all tenants earn high salaries, especially those working in IT. Her comments have started a wider conversation online about how difficult it has become for non-IT professionals and average earners to find affordable housing in the city.
The woman shared her experience in a video where she explained how rent expectations are becoming too high for many people moving to Bengaluru for work.
She Says Landlords Assume Everyone Earns High Salaries
In her video, she said many property owners in Bengaluru believe most tenants are well-paid IT workers.
“Owners in Bangalore really need to understand that everybody… whoever comes here to Bangalore…
not everyone works in IT, and not everyone is earning lakhs of rupees. No, this… this is the reality, that whoever comes here, everyone’s work is different, everyone’s payment is different. So, the rent that you are fixing, keep this in mind and consider that not everyone is earning lakhs,” she said.
She added that rising inflation is already affecting people, and the constant increase in rent and deposit amounts is making life harder for tenants. According to her, many people are struggling just to manage basic living costs.
“I mean, I understand that inflation has risen, everything has risen, but here, the way the rent keeps increasing, and the way the deposit keeps increasing… it is not easy to survive here. I mean, a lot of people are facing this exact problem, that brother, survival is becoming very difficult here. What will we earn, what will we eat, and what will we save?” she said.
She Responds To “Go Back Home” Remarks
The woman also spoke about how some people tell migrants to return to their hometowns if they cannot afford Bengaluru’s cost of living.
“Now, again, people here will say, ‘But Didi, who called you here? Go back.’ We have come for work, right? Everyone steps out of the house to earn. That doesn’t mean that, ‘Brother, because the rent is high here, I should go and sit back at home,” she added.
She Shares What Triggered Her Video
In her caption, she explained that the issue came up during a conversation with a landlord while she was trying to negotiate rent.
She said the owner assumed she worked in IT and earns a high salary, and that is why she should accept the rent being asked. This assumption made her question how non-IT workers are expected to survive in the city.
“In a recent conversation with the owner while I was trying to bargain he bought it up saying you’ll earn in lakhs and come from IT department so why are you asking to reduce the rent? That shook me and I was like I am not from IT and only IT people are kit the ones buying the flats so what about people like us? Where should we find a place? That’s why I want to burst this bubble for the owners here” she wrote.
Social Media Users React To Her Claims
The video has led to many reactions from users who agreed with her concerns.
A user wrote, “This is so true, Bengaluru rents have become impossible for normal salaried people.”
Another said, “Not everyone in Bangalore works in IT, landlords really need to understand this.”
A person commented, “The deposit amount itself is enough to scare tenants away.”
Others pointed out the growing pressure of living costs in the city. A user said, “People come to Bengaluru for work, but survival is becoming a challenge.”
Another added, “This city needs better rental regulation.” A comment read, “Owners think every tenant earns lakhs, but the reality is very different.”
