Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds swept across several parts of Delhi-NCR on Thursday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for the national capital.
The IMD forecast rainfall of 5-15 mm per hour, along with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-60 kmph. The alert was valid until 2 pm, with intermittent showers expected across several parts of Delhi.

The city recorded a minimum temperature of 23.3 degrees Celsius, which was 3.7 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 29 degrees Celsius, keeping daytime temperatures lower,
the weather department said.
Experts linked the sudden rainfall to a western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation over adjoining areas. They said the spell was part of a normal post-monsoon weather pattern, with intermittent showers likely in Delhi and other parts of the region.
