Chiyaan Vikram and Dhruv Vikram shared screen space for the first time in Mahaan, and now the gritty gangster drama may not be done just yet. Director Karthik Subbaraj has hinted that a sequel could be on the horizon.
Mahaan 2 in the Works?
At a recent public event, Karthik Subbaraj addressed speculation about a follow-up to the 2022 film. While stopping short of a formal announcement, he confirmed that the idea has crossed his mind.
“I have a small idea for Mahaan 2, but I need to write it. It will likely be 2027–2028 by the time the film happens,” the filmmaker shared, suggesting that a sequel is possible, though still in its early conceptual stage.
Revisiting Mahaan
Released directly on Amazon Prime Video on February 10, 2022, Mahaan marked the
first on-screen collaboration between real-life father and son, Chiyaan Vikram and Dhruv Vikram. The film revolved around Gandhi Mahaan, a mild-mannered commerce teacher living a conventional middle-class life with his Gandhian wife Nachi and their son Dada.
A moment of rebellion changes everything. When his family leaves for a school trip, Gandhi indulges in forbidden pleasures, only to return to find that his wife has walked out on him. Freed from domestic restraint, he joins forces with a liquor baron and rises to power in the alcohol trade.
Years later, his estranged son Dada re-enters his life — not as a child, but as a fiercely ideological police officer determined to dismantle everything his father has built. What follows is a tense, emotionally charged battle between opposing belief systems, turning the story into a clash of ideology, morality, and blood ties.
The film also featured Simran, Bobby Simha, Sananth, Vettai Muthukumar, and Deepak Paramesh in pivotal roles.
What’s Next for Vikram and Dhruv?
Chiyaan Vikram is gearing up for his next project, tentatively titled Chiyaan63, directed by debutant Bodi Rajkumar, with Shruti Haasan reportedly playing the female lead.
Meanwhile, Dhruv Vikram was last seen in Bison, a sports action drama helmed by Mari Selvaraj. Based on the life of kabaddi player Manathi Ganesan, the film also stars Pasupathy, Ameer, Lal, Anupama Parameswaran, and Rajisha Vijayan.
While Mahaan 2 is still at the idea stage, Subbaraj’s comments have reignited interest in the intense father-son saga — leaving fans hopeful that Gandhi Mahaan’s story might continue in the coming years.
