Devdutt Padikkal is in red-hot form these days. The 25-year-old left-handed batter from Karnataka is in action for the Mayank Agarwal-led side on Wednesday (December 31) against Pondicherry, and in the match
taking place at ADSA Railways Cricket Ground in Ahmedabad, he scored 113 runs. He faced 116 balls during his stay at the crease and slammed 10 fours and 4 sixes in addition to adding 228 runs in 37.5 overs for the first wicket with Mayank, who made 132 runs from 124 balls.
The century by Padikkal against Pondicherry is his third triple-digit score in four matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26.
He tops the list of batters with the most runs in the ongoing premier domestic one-day tournament and has a batting average of 101.50.
Padikkal, who has played two T20Is and two Test matches for Team India so far, with his red-hot form, is knocking on the doors of Team India, and it won’t be a surprise if he is picked in the Indian squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand.
Padikkal played his first match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 for Karnataka on December 24 against Jharkhand and scored 147 runs from 118 balls in the 413-run chase. He slammed 10 fours and 7 sixes against Ishan Kishan’s men. In Karnataka’s second Elite Group A match against Kerala, he once again opened the innings in the 285-run chase and amassed a total of 124 runs from 137 balls (12 fours and 3 sixes).
