Many professionals dream of working in the United States because of the higher salaries and career opportunities it offers. But for one Indian employee, the benefits of staying back in India were more important than moving abroad for work.
The story was shared by entrepreneur Ujjawal Asthana, co-founder of Zymrat, on X. He spoke about a relative who reportedly turned down an internal job transfer to the US, saying the lifestyle he enjoys in India would be difficult to maintain there.
Employee Chooses Comfort Over Relocation
Asthana explained that his relative felt he would have to do all the household work himself if he moved to the US. He also believed he would miss the convenience of quick grocery deliveries and other services that are easily
available in India.
Sharing the story on X, Asthana wrote, “A relative is refusing US opportunity in his own company. His reason – in the offered salary he will have to clean house himself, eat at home, won’t get 10 min grocery, won’t get at home massages – here he is single and lives king size.”
In India, many working professionals can hire domestic help, order groceries within minutes, and use services like laundry, food delivery, and home massages at prices that are affordable for many. In countries like the US, these services usually cost much more because of higher labour costs, leading many people to manage household chores on their own.
X Users Share Mixed Opinions
The post started a discussion on X, with users sharing different views on whether the employee made the right choice. While some felt he was giving up a valuable opportunity, others believed quality of life mattered just as much as salary.

Priorities.

A user wrote, “By the time he gets PR in the US robots will do the majority of chores there. He will regret the decision. Even if he goes there for a couple of years it will be worth it. Experiencing different cultures gives you a lot of life changing things.”
Another user had a different opinion, saying, “Which part of the world do you get milk / paper / grocery / maid / cook / iron man / cleaner / teacher / tailor / bank… India is heaven!” Some users also wanted more details before judging the decision.
“What’s the offered salary? Or tell the range?” a person asked.
Another user supported the employee’s choice and said Asthana’s relative had made the right decision because he would have been “poor in PPP terms” had he moved to the US.
