After years of whispers, waiting and wishful thinking, Kennedy is finally ready to meet its audience… just not in a dark theatre. Anurag Kashyap’s gritty neo-noir thriller, which has travelled the world and collected applause along the way, is now all set for its long-delayed India release on OTT, giving fans a reason to finally hit play.
The filmmaker announced the update on Saturday by sharing the teaser of Kennedy on Instagram. Confirming that the film will stream on ZEE5, Kashyap wrote, “Finally, our labour of love, angst and everything in between—Kennedy—is coming home after travelling the world on @zee5. All I can say is that I am grateful for having been able to make this film, for my team, my producers, my studio, and at the end of the day—jab
jab jo jo hona hai, tab tab so so hota hai (everything happens in its own time).”

Despite receiving clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification, Kennedy never made it to theatres in India. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, where it was screened in the Midnight Screenings section and received a seven-minute standing ovation. Since then, it has been showcased at several international festivals, including the Sydney Film Festival, Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea, Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, and the London Indian Film Festival.
The OTT announcement sparked excitement among fans, many of whom have been waiting for the film’s release since its Cannes debut. Social media comments reflected the anticipation, with one user writing, “GOAT Kashyap back with another banger—been waiting for this movie since the day the teaser dropped.” Another commented, “Finally! Can’t wait to watch it.” Some viewers also expressed disappointment over missing the theatrical experience, with remarks like, “Would’ve loved to watch it on the big screen,” and “Wanted to see this in theatres—have been waiting for it for a long time.”
Kennedy is a dark crime thriller that follows an insomniac former police officer who is believed to be dead but continues to operate within a corrupt system while quietly searching for redemption. The film stars Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone in the lead roles, with Mohit Takalkar, Abhilash Thapliyal and Megha Burman playing key parts.
Presented by Zee Studios and produced by Good Bad Films, Kennedy is scheduled to begin streaming on ZEE5 in February.
