Deoria (UP), Jul 27 (PTI) The body of a private school security guard was found under suspicious circumstances on the bank of the Chhoti Gandak river in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district on Monday, police said.
The body was found near Nadawar village in the Salempur Kotwali area and was sent for post-mortem examination, they said.
According to the police, the deceased, identified as Lallan Tiwari, aged around 60 years and a resident of Pandit Haraiya village, had been working as a guard at a private school in the Salahabad ward of Salempur town for the past six months.
Family members said Tiwari had left home on Sunday afternoon but did not return till late in the night. Despite extensive searches, they could not trace him.
The police said a passer-by
spotted the body lying on the riverbank near Nadawar Ghat on Monday morning and informed the authorities. The body was identified as that of Tiwari and his family was subsequently informed.
Salempur Kotwali SHO Vinod Kumar Singh said prima facie the case appeared to be one of death by drowning.
“The body has been sent for post-mortem. The exact cause of death will be known only after the report is received,” he said. PTI COR KIS KSS KSS
