Dharashiv, Sep 9 (PTI) A group of Maratha quota protesters set on fire the chair of tehsildar at Omerga in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district on Wednesday, prompting the police to arrest four of them, officials said.
The incident took place around 10 am when the tehsildar was not there in the office, an official from Omerga police station told PTI.
The agitators came to the tehsil office and took out the chair in the open space outside before setting it on fire, he said.
They also raised slogans in support of Maratha quota agitation leader Manoj Jarange. After being informed, a police team reached the spot and detained four of them, identified as Annasaheb Pawar, Mahadev Mane, Vitthal Pawar and Vaijanath Kale, the official said.
A case was registered
against them on charges of trespassing, mischief and property damage, assault or use of criminal force to deter public servant, obstructing a public servant in discharging duty, the police said.
They were presented in a court, which remanded them in judicial custody, according to them. PTI AW NP
