Nepal Flash Floods: Raging Waters Barrel Down Hillside, New Terrifying Videos Show

New videos emerging from Nepal show the staggering scale of destruction left behind by the massive flash floods that tore through communities along the Nepal-China border, with entire stretches of roads and built-up areas appearing overwhelmed by mud, water and debris.

The footage comes as the death toll from the disaster climbed to 469 in Nepal on Friday, according to police, while rescuers continued searching for hundreds of people still missing in the affected areas.

The previous death toll had stood at 390 in Nepal and three in Tibet, while authorities had reported more than 1,400 people missing across the two regions.

New Videos Capture The Scale Of Destruction

The latest visuals from the flood-hit areas show the aftermath of a torrent powerful enough to rip through settlements, bury

roads and leave buildings surrounded by thick layers of mud and debris.

In Nuwakot district, one of the areas badly affected by the disaster, buildings and streets have been left coated in mud.

The devastation visible in the footage comes after floodwaters and debris swept through communities with enormous force.

Earlier videos of the disaster showed people running for safety as the advancing floodwaters engulfed buildings and infrastructure.

The destruction has also made rescue operations considerably more difficult, with roads and bridges damaged or swept away and communities cut off in parts of the affected region.

A Himalayan Disaster That Struck With Huge Force

According to the Associated Press, scientists who studied satellite imagery said bedrock beneath a glacier high in the Himalayan region collapsed, taking part of the glacier with it.

The resulting torrent carried rocks and melted water into rivers in the valleys below.

The volume and force of the water created a surge that at times rose several stories high, sweeping buildings, bridges and earth downstream, AP reported.

The scale of that force is visible in the new footage, where the landscape has been transformed into stretches of mud, rubble and wreckage.

Earlier AP visuals from Nuwakot showed buildings and streets slathered in mud, debris caught in trees and stunned survivors covered in mud.

The AP also reported that a two-lane road running alongside a river in Tibet’s Shigatse prefecture was completely buried.

Search For Missing Continues

While the new videos document the destruction, rescue teams are still working to locate people who remain unaccounted for.

Nepalese authorities said hundreds had already been rescued, while dozens of injured people were receiving treatment in Kathmandu.

Among those missing are foreigners from several countries, including trekkers and pilgrims who were in the Himalayan region when the disaster struck.

The continuing search comes against a landscape dramatically altered by the floodwaters. Mud and debris have covered roads and settlements, while damaged infrastructure has complicated access to some areas.
