Rohit Sharma, who is playing as an opener for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday (March 29), has entered his name in the history books by becoming the first Indian cricketer to hit 550 sixes in T20s. Rohit, who is the second highest run scorer in IPL history, needed 3 sixes against KKR to reach the milestone of hitting 550 sixes in T20s, and he achieved the objective in the 5th over of the 221-run chase.
Rohit slammed his first six of the match on the second ball of the third over bowled by Vaibhav Arora, and the second maximum came off Blessing Muzarabani’s bowling in the fourth over.
Rohit, who is the first-capped player to feature in all 19 editions of the Indian Premier League,
overall scored 78 runs from 38 balls in the 221-run chase and added 148 runs for the first wicket with Ryan Rickelton in 11.5 overs. At the time of Rohit’s dismissal, Rickelton was batting on 67 runs from 34 balls.
During his stay at the crease for Mumbai Indians on Sunday, Rohit slammed a total of six fours and six sixes.
The world record of scoring the most sixes in T20s is in the name of West Indies great Chris Gayle. Gayle played 463 T20 matches from 2005 to 2022 and hammered 1056 sixes. He is followed by Kieron Pollard, who has 982 sixes to his name in 735 T20 matches played so far. A total of 8 batters are ahead of Rohit in the list of batters with the most sixes in T20s, but there is no Indian.

Rohit needed just 23 balls on Sunday to reach the 50-run mark for MI in the IPL 2026 match against KKR. The fifty in 23 balls is Rohit’s fastest half-century in IPL history. The previous fastest 50 for him was in 25 balls against Chennai Super Kings in the 2015 final at Eden Gardens.
