Serbian tennis legend was presented the Globe Sport Award 2025 on Monday at the Atlantis Royal Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and he went on to laud the mindset of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is in pursuit of his 1000-goal landmark.
Djokovic expressed his admiration for Ronaldo and the attitude with which he approaches his sport, which has helped him stay atop the game for decades.
“I thank all the people who have contributed towards my growth as a person and a tennis player,” Djokovic said.
“To be recognised tonight in front of some of the best sporting and football legends ever, is truly special,” he added.
“I’ve been blessed, god has given me the incredible opportunity to play this sport still at this age.”
“I love Cristiano’s serious look when
he said he’s going to reach 1000 goals, and he really means it,” the Serbian said.
“And I do believe and resonate with the power of the words and power of the mind,” he continued.
“Mind over matter and let’s see what the future brings, but I am extremely grateful to be here,” the 24-time Grand Slam champion said.
Earlier in the night, Ronaldo was presented with the Middle Eastern Player of the Year Award, and expressed confidence in his chase of the elusive milestone..
“I’m confident I’ll get there if there are no injuries. Enjoy the night and Happy New Year,” he said.
Ronaldo also lauded the efforts of Djokovic to keep pushing the boundaries of the sport despite his advancing age calling him a beacon of longevity.
“For me, he is an example of longevity. We have a similar story. He deserves this because he is an example for the past generation, the current one and the next,” the former Real Madrid player said.
