A morning walk turned fatal for a retired Army officer in Haryana’s Panchkula, where an 85-year-old veteran was killed after being struck by an unidentified vehicle in a hit-and-run incident, police said
on Monday.
The accident took place on Friday evening when Lieutenant General Kulwant Singh Mann (retd) had stepped out for a walk near his residence.
He sustained critical injuries after being hit by the vehicle, which fled the scene, officials said.
Confirming the incident, Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder, Acting Station House Officer of the Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) police station, said the post-mortem examination is yet to be conducted as the family is awaiting the arrival of one of the officer’s sons from abroad.
Police officials said there are no CCTV cameras installed at the exact location of the accident.
However, teams are scanning footage from nearby areas in an effort to identify the vehicle involved.
Panchkula Assistant Commissioner of Police Dinesh Kumar said a case has been registered against the unidentified driver under relevant legal provisions.
He added that further investigation is underway to trace the accused and establish the sequence of events.
