Does The 140-Year-Long Video Really Exist On YouTube?

Dashcam videos, puppy videos, murder mysteries, documentaries, pranks, skits, ASMR, Mukbang, vlogs, music albums, how-to guides, tech reviews, science experiments, livestreams: YouTube is a world of its own. One can hop onto the video-sharing website and look up food recipes, acquire a new skill or simply doomscroll to eternity. A YouTube video, however, grabbed headlines recently, neither for its insightful value nor entertaining content. Instead, the video in question is being shared on social media for its lengthy run time. How long exactly? 140 years long, to be precise.

But is this even real news, or a figment of someone’s imagination gone too far and is being shared as legitimate news?

“140-Year-Long”

A mysterious YouTube account with the username @shinywr

had, in fact, uploaded a video not long ago on the video-sharing platform. The account, created on 31 Jul 2023, has uploaded two long-form videos. The most recent video, posted by the channel on January 5, is where all the focus and interest is.

The video, seen in the above screenshot, displays a staggering run time of 1,234,567:30:00 or 1,234,567 hours or 1.2 million hours or roughly 140 years.

140-Year-Long, Not

A simple click on the video reveals the video’s actual length. 12 hours, 34 minutes, and 56 seconds.

The news of a 140-year-long video being hosted on YouTube was first debunked by users on X and Reddit who wondered if the mysterious YouTube channel had tricked the platform’s algorithm into displaying a skewed run time.

So… What’s In the Video?

With an indecipherable description “�تعال قابلني Ù ÙŠ الجحيم�” and captioned with a question mark in a rhombus, the video also has not much to offer as it’s 12 hours 34 minutes and 56 seconds of nothingness.

The location of the upload, North Korea, caught the fancy of some viewers who delved deep into conspiracy theories.

“Surprisingly, it has no caption, but a question mark. Plus, 320k+ views, and uploaded 5 days ago. Maybe It is corrupted, or something really deep hidden in this video. Like seriously, if you calculate, that this video’s timeline is 140 years. That means(2026-140=1886), it takes to the 1st January of 1886. It has something, during that day, that we didn’t know. And we need to know it,” a Redditor, contributing to the r/FilmTheorists Subreddit, wrote.

The viral video has been viewed 2.8 million times since it was uploaded by the mystery YouTube account.

“why are my videos getting recommended to people? this channel was supposed to be a secret (sic),” the channel wrote in a community post.

“Elaborate Prank”

The fictional news about the “140-year-long” video had barely exited the online trend cycle when “@shinywr” shared about their next upload on January 11, which was titled “billionhours”. It appeared to be a livestream that ended rather swiftly.

Remarkably, the channel also uploaded a YouTube Shorts lasting 6 days. This Shorts, nicknamed “YouTube Pants” by the online community, is a blank screen of nothingness as well.

“Why Is This On My Feed?”

Although the video is “only” over 12 hours long (compared to the absurd 140-year run time YouTube is displaying), viewers still can’t wrap their heads around why this random clip suddenly appeared in their feed.

“love how we all found this on the same day and agree this gon become an arg (sic),” wrote one commenter.

“historians are gonna have a field day with this one (sic).”

“one last video before bed mom…(sic).”

“So we’re all seeing this in the same day?”

Guinness World Records

As the online community and conspiracy theorists piece together what “@shinywr” is really up to in the days to come, there exist a few videos that have had the official seal of approval by the Guinness World Records.

Longest Music Video

“The longest music video is 177 days 16 hours 10 min 25 sec long, and was achieved by Twenty One Pilots (USA), from 21 June to 16 December 2020. The music video, for their song Level of Concern, was live streamed on YouTube and was comprised of video submissions from fans,” GWR noted.

Longest live-stream (video)

GWR also recognised the longest live-stream video, which lasted a whopping 918 hours.

“The longest live-stream (video) is 918 hr and 55 min, and was achieved by La Casa de Alofoke 2 (Dominican Republic) at Lántica Studios, Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic from 20 October to 28 November 2025,” the officiating body added.
