New Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior, who is set to take charge of the Blues when they face Charlton Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday, has expressed confidence in assuming control of the club midway through the season.
Rosenior will lead the Stamford Bridge side following the club’s decision to dismiss former boss Enzo Maresca due to escalating personal differences.
“No excuses about starting my job mid season. I’m here to win,” the 41-year-old stated.
“This project is about winning. It’s not about anything but trying to deliver trophies,” he added.
“Whether it’s me at the club in three, four, five years, this club will be successful for a long time,” Rosenior explained.
Maresca left Stamford Bridge on January 1 after winning two
trophies in his debut season. However, Chelsea’s poor form in the Premier League, with just one win in nine matches, led to the club dropping to eighth place.
Having watched Wednesday’s defeat to Fulham from the stands, Rosenior is already aware of the unrest surrounding BlueCo’s ownership. Nonetheless, he dismissed any suggestion that he is merely a compliant appointment.
The Englishman, who was at Strasbourg for the first half of the 2025-26 season, has signed a contract with the London club through 2032.
Chelsea and Strasbourg are owned by BlueCo, who have been impressed by Rosenior. He helped Strasbourg qualify for Europe for the first time in nearly two decades in his first season last year and has previously worked with Hull City and Derby County.
Rosenior favours a similar high-intensity, possession-based style to Maresca, the coach who ‘parted ways’ after reportedly experiencing a breakdown in his relationship with Chelsea’s ownership. Rosenior’s task will be to manage the high expectations across the four competitions while leading the youngest squad in the Premier League.
