Patiala, Jul 28 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said Punjab has no place for hatred, asserting that “every seed can germinate except the seed of hatred”, as he reiterated his government’s commitment to preserving peace, communal harmony and brotherhood in the state.
Addressing a religious event, ‘Ek Sham Shiv Ke Naam’, here, Mann said Punjab’s social fabric was too strong for divisive forces to succeed, with people of all faiths celebrating festivals together and living in mutual respect.
“Punjab is a fertile land where every seed can germinate except the seed of hatred. The bond of unity in our state is very strong because people celebrate every festival together,” he said.
“Punjab is a land of communal harmony and freedom,
and divisive forces can never succeed here. Though today’s function is dedicated to Lord Shiva, people from every religion have gathered here, reflecting the true spirit of Punjab,” he added.
Mann said the state government was working tirelessly for the welfare of every section of society and was committed to building an egalitarian society where people of all faiths live together with mutual respect and harmony.
“I bow before all the revered saints and spiritual leaders present on this stage. Our government is working tirelessly for the welfare of every religion while respecting all faiths equally,” he said.
Calling it an honour to attend the event, Mann said the venue had always been close to his heart.
“The overwhelming participation of people strengthens the resolve of the government to serve them with greater dedication,” he said.
Highlighting his government’s welfare initiatives, Mann said 19 toll plazas had been shut, resulting in savings of nearly Rs 70 lakh every day for the public.
He also said more than 68,000 government jobs had been provided to the youth in a completely transparent manner.
“Around 90 per cent of households are receiving free electricity, farmers are getting power supply during the daytime, nearly 44,000 kilometres of roads are being constructed, and the canal irrigation system has been strengthened to ensure there is no shortage of canal water for agriculture,” the chief minister said.
