Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is set to reunite with producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah for his next film, titled Samuk. As per PTI, the upcoming project is being described as India’s biggest alien action spectacle and is slated for a theatrical release in 2027.
Co-produced by Aashin A Shah, Samuk will be directed by Kanishk Varma. The film is expected to bring together elements of survival horror, alien thriller and large-scale action, mounted with an international visual treatment.
Akshay Kumar To Star In Alien Thriller Samuk
Akshay Kumar confirmed that he has signed the film and said he is excited to explore a genre that is new for him as an actor.
He said, “Yes, I’ve signed this film. I found the script and subject of Samuk fascinating. Alien thriller
is a totally new genre for me and also for our films. I am very excited about it.”
With Samuk, the makers are aiming to push Indian commercial cinema into relatively unexplored territory. The film will reportedly combine grounded action storytelling with practical effects and high-end visual world-building.
Vipul Amrutlal Shah On Samuk
Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah said the team has always tried to challenge itself with different genres, and Samuk is an attempt to create something Indian cinema has not seen before.
He said, “We always try to challenge ourselves with different genres, and Samuk is something Indian cinema hasn’t attempted before. Our aim is to create a world-class alien thriller for audiences.”
The film marks another collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Vipul Amrutlal Shah, who have previously worked together on several successful projects.
Kanishk Varma On The Inspiration Behind Samuk
Director Kanishk Varma revealed that Samuk was born from his interest in elite security forces and classic sci-fi horror films.
He said, “Samuk was born from my love for the SPG world and survival thrillers like Alien and Predator. Bringing those influences together with Akshay sir has been surreal…I always wanted the creature to feel physically real on set. That old-school tactile horror is what made films like Alien timeless.”
The film is expected to lean on physical creature design and practical effects, instead of relying only on digital spectacle.
Hollywood Technicians Join Samuk
Samuk has also brought in international technicians with experience in Hollywood franchise filmmaking. Acclaimed creature FX designer Alec Gillis has joined the project to design and create the film’s alien creature.
The action sequences will be supervised by British stunt coordinator Luke Tumber, suggesting that the makers are aiming for a large-scale, technically polished action experience.
Samuk is scheduled to release in theatres in 2027.
