Some films stumble at the box office initially but go on to receive overwhelming love from audiences over time, eventually achieving cult or landmark status. Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane’s 2016 romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam is one such film.
Once labelled a flop, the film has since rewritten its fate to become one of Hindi cinema’s most emotionally enduring love stories. Its 2025 re-release further proved its enduring popularity, as it went on to become the second highest-grossing re-released film.
As the film celebrates its 10th anniversary today, producer Deepak Mukut shared a heartfelt note on social media, reflecting on its journey from a modest theatrical response to being rediscovered and celebrated by audiences.
Sanam Teri Kasam
Completes 10 Years
In his post, Mukut revealed that his passion for filmmaking started early, inspired by a desire to bring stories to life. Reflecting on his debut as a producer, he said he aimed to create a romance rooted in strong emotions.
He wrote, “I have been drawn to filmmaking since I was a kid. What attracted me the most was being an enabler who set it in motion. Being a producer means donning multiple hats, from the script, to the actors, to the crew, the budget and the innumerable other things that a producer is responsible for.”
“With my first film as a producer, I wanted to make a romance with a strong emotional core. My dream came true with Sanam Teri Kasam. It was the first labour of love under the banner Soham Rockstar Entertainment,” he added.

He spoke about the disappointment of the film’s initial box-office failure but said he never questioned its emotional strength. He wrote, “While the film didn’t fare well at the box office initially, I always had faith in it. It was validated when the film re-released and rewrote history. It became the highest-grossing re-released film in Hindi cinema. While I had the satisfaction of having made the kind of film that I wanted, the love from the audience was what I was craving for.”
Mukut also extended his gratitude to the cast, crew and audiences, thanking Harshvardhan Rane, Mawra Hocane, Vinay Sapru, Radhika Rao, Himesh Reshammiya and the entire team for bringing his vision to life.
