Agartala, Jun 26 (PTI): The Tripura government on Friday ordered a high-level inquiry into an explosion at a flat in the city in which one person was killed and another injured, an official said.
A five-member committee has been constituted to probe the incident.
It will be headed by Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, Special Secretary of the Urban Development department Tamal Majumder said.
The other members of the committee include the Director of Fire and Emergency Services, the Municipal Commissioner, the Chief Engineer (PWD, Buildings) and the Superintendent of Police (West Tripura district), he said.
The committee has been asked to submit its report within a week, suggesting necessary safety measures, he added.
Two persons were injured
after a powerful explosion tore through an apartment building here on Thursday afternoon, causing extensive damage and triggering panic among residents.
The blast occurred around 12.20 pm on the first floor of NS Apartment near Sankar Chowmuhani in the city’s Ramnagar area under West Agartala police station.
One of the persons succumbed to injuries on Friday morning.
Chief Minister Manik Saha and Mayor Dipak Majumder visited the site in the Ramnagar area under West Agartala police station to assess the situation following the blast.
“The preliminary findings indicate the incident took place due to faulty installation of PNG pipeline inside the property. Everything will be clear after a proper investigation,” he said.
The CM also indicated that a detailed advisory for real estate properties in the city will be issued to ensure safety and prevent such incidents in future.
He also assured financial assistance to the affected families.
“Most of the high-rise apartments are constructed in the Ramnagar area because of its strategic location. We will formulate a detailed advisory for all apartments to prevent recurrence of such incidents,” he said. PTI PS MNB
