Star South Africa and Lucknow Super Giants all-rounder Aiden Markram on Sunday, April 19, conceded 32 runs in one of his overs, to make it the most expensive over for an LSG bowler in the five-season-old team’s history.
Markram was handed the ball after the Punjab Kings had posted a whopping 147/1 in 12 overs and the spin of Ayush Badoni and Manimaran Siddharth hadn’t accounted well for them.
Australia’s Cooper Connolly, who was batting on a 38-ball 63, welcomed Markram with a six and followed it up with two more. The latter’s fourth delivery was a wide and on the extra ball, Connolly ran a single and gave Priyansh Arya the strike.
Arya finished the over with two more sixes as Markram’s nightmare came true and he wasn’t the ball after that. At
the end of the over, PBKS were at 179/1, with Arya batting on 92 and Connolly on 82.
The latter was dismissed in the next over by Prince Yadav for a 46-ball 87.
Markram’s 32-run over is now the most expensive ever conceded by a Lucknow Super Giants bowler in the IPL, eclipsing the previous record of 27 runs given away by Ravi Bishnoi against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2022 Eliminator in Kolkata.
In that game, at the end of 15 overs, RCB were at 123/4 and on the opening delivery, Dinesh Karthik took a single and handed the strike to Rajat Patidar.
The latter smacked Bishnoi for a 6, 4, 6, 4 and 6 to score 26 runs off just boundaries and at the end of the over, RCB found themselves at 150/4. Riding on Patidar’s unbeaten 112, RCB posted a whopping 207 and LSG could manage 193, as RCB moved forward into Qualifier 2.
But despite the onslaught, Markram took a crucial catch in Punjab Kings’ last over to dismiss a hard-hitting Shashank Singh.
