A female passenger shared an alarming account of a cab ride from Gurgaon to Delhi, which has now sparked fresh concerns over the safety and security of travellers on ride-hailing platforms. She alleged that her Uber driver was constantly on the phone, took the wrong route and behaved rudely after she had pointed out his mistake.
In a post on X, Angellica Aribam, a political activist and founder of Femme First Foundation, shared her ordeal. She wrote, “I took an @Uber_India XL cab from Gurgaon to Delhi today. The driver was on the phone throughout, speaking to his partner, and took a wrong route.”
“I Felt Unsafe But Found No Panic Button” Things took a turn when she pointed out the error. The driver allegedly told her, “Chup chap baitho (sit quietly)”
and continued to speak to her rudely. “I felt unsafe but found no panic button,” she said.
What was more worrisome was that the person behind the wheel was not the same person shown on the platform. She further added, “@Uber_India, the driver details on your platform is incorrect. It is a different person with a different name.” She then raised concerns about the mismatch of identity and asked, “Women’s safety is a big concern, why is your platform allowing impersonation?”
Uber India Responds To Her
The incident soon caught the attention of Uber India Support, who asked Angellica to share the details about the ride for taking action against the driver. They wrote, “This is very concerning, there. Behaviour like this is absolutely not condoned, and your safety shall always remain a priority.
Please share your specific trip with date and time of the trip and registered contact details associated with your Uber account via Direct Message. Our safety team will be in touch with you shortly.”
“This Is Becoming Very Common These Days”
Once Angellica posted about the incident on social media, people began sharing similar experiences with the ride-hailing platform. Some also questioned Uber about the safety of passengers, especially women.
I took an @Uber_India XL cab from Gurgaon to Delhi today. The driver was on the phone throughout speaking to his partner, and took a wrong route. When pointed out, he asked me to “chup chap baitho” and spoke very rudely further. I felt unsafe but found no panic button.

“Once a drunk guy was my driver, I asked him to stop and get out in between and paid the whole price as he asked, but then before even registering a complaint, I got a call from Uber support, asking me the reason for such a drive end. I said I was feeling unsafe & they removed the driver,” said a user.
Another wrote, “This has become standard practice. Once this happened with us & when we pointed, the driver stopped the vehicle and dropped us there. There is no Customer care of Uber to whom you can call immediately. The complaint system on the app is cumbersome/ AI BASED.”
“This is becoming very common these days, they start talking the moment the journey starts and usually continues during the entire trip,” shared an individual.
“Never ever accept a ride with someone less than 4.8 rating. I simply cancel and find another driver if ever connected to someone with a lower rating than this,” someone suggested.
“My 2 cents for females. Make a short video. Call police show the evidence,” a different person said.
