Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj is used to facing tough questions about cinema, box office numbers and fan expectations. But at a recent press interaction, the spotlight suddenly shifted from films to his personal
life and that moment has since sparked a strong backlash online.
During the press meet, Lokesh was addressing questions around his recent release Coolie and his upcoming collaboration with Allu Arjun when a reporter raised a personal query that many viewers found inappropriate. The filmmaker, who has been married for over a decade, was asked about rumours linking him to an actress and whether he was planning to “be family” with her.
Responding calmly, Lokesh said, “No, sir. I already have a family.” Despite the clear answer, the reporter followed up with, “Second family,” prompting Lokesh to disengage from the question and bring the interaction to a close.
The exchange quickly made its way to social media, where fans and filmgoers criticised the reporter’s conduct and praised Lokesh for maintaining his composure. Several users on X (formerly Twitter) described the question as inappropriate and disrespectful. One user wrote, “Reporter’s Stupid Question: We are hearing that you are in love with an Actress & going to have a 2nd family soon. Is it true? #LokeshKanagaraj: No. I already have a family. Not sure why Loki took it casually. Mentals like this should be slapped on spot.” Another shared the clip with the caption, “Very cheap behaviour.”
Others questioned the journalist’s awareness of Lokesh’s personal life. “These so called journalists didn’t even know he was married and has kids,” one fan wrote, while another reacted sharply, saying, “Cheap behaviour da dei.” Some also highlighted how the director handled the situation, with one post reading, “That’s really bad and very cheap,” followed by praise for Lokesh, adding, “And yet he stayed so calm.” Another user remarked, “This is not funny,” reacting to how casually the phrase ‘second family’ was used even after clarification.
For context, Lokesh Kanagaraj has been married to Aishwarya since 2012, and the couple has two daughters. On the professional front, his most recent release was Coolie (2025), starring Rajinikanth, and he is currently gearing up to direct a new project with Allu Arjun.
