Nearly 33 Lakh Women Receive Financial Assistance Under Punjab Govt's Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana

The Punjab government’s Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana is emerging as a crucial source of financial support for women facing rising household costs, education expenses and inflation.

Under the scheme, nearly 33 lakh women who completed registration by June 25, 2026, have already received the assistance in their bank accounts, while the remaining beneficiaries are expected to receive the funds on August 1. So far, close to 70 lakh women have enrolled.

Data from the scheme indicates that it is benefiting women in age groups often burdened with significant financial responsibilities. Women aged 36–45 account for 25.2 per cent of beneficiaries, while those in the 46–59 age bracket make up 25.4 per cent, together comprising more than half

of all recipients.

For many families, the monthly assistance is helping cover essential expenses such as education, healthcare and daily household needs. Sunita Rani (48), from Fazilka’s Dhani Kharaswali village, said the money has enabled her to contribute to her children’s education. “My daughter is pursuing a B.Tech degree and my son studies in Class XI. I have used most of the money to pay my son’s school fees and given the remaining amount to my husband. As a housewife, I have no independent income, so this assistance has given me the satisfaction of contributing to my family’s needs.”

Pachho (55), a resident of Ferozepur, said the scheme had provided relief during difficult times. “I spent part of the money on my treatment and saved the rest for household expenses. My husband passed away years ago, and we have been living in difficult circumstances.”

Karamjit Kaur (46), who is associated with a self-help group, used the assistance for personal and family needs. “Main taan is paise naal apni ainak banwai te scooty vich petrol pawa liya. (I bought a new pair of spectacles and filled petrol in my scooter with this money.)”

Preeti (28), a domestic worker from Fazilka, said, “This money has helped us pay our children’s school fees. It has come at the right time and reduced our financial burden.”

According to beneficiaries, the scheme is helping women shoulder financial responsibilities and provide greater support to their families.
