The Maharashtra CET Cell has approached the state’s Cyber Cell and the Azad Maidan police after a video and an audio clip went viral on social media. The clips claimed that there were irregularities in the provisional engineering admission merit list and alleged that exam centres could be manipulated in exchange for money, reported Times of India.
The CET Cell has asked the police to trace the source of the video and audio, identify those who created and circulated them, and investigate whether the allegations are true. No FIR has been registered so far. Around 2.4 lakh students have applied through the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for engineering courses.
The video allegedly showed a person who questioned some students who secured high
scores in the MHT-CET PCM exam but couldn’t achieve even 50% in the HSC or class 12 board exams. The audio clip allegedly featured a woman claiming she could arrange a preferred CET exam centre and help students achieve a 99th percentile in return for money, the report added.
What CET Cell Said
CET Cell Commissioner Dileep Sardesai said that differences between HSC and MHT-CET scores are common and not unusual. He pointed out that 202 students who scored between the 98th and 100th percentile in the MHT-CET had only 40% to 50% marks in the PCM subjects in the HSC exam.
He also highlighted an opposite trend, wherein 50 students who scored over 90% in the HSC examination ranked below the 30th percentile in the MHT-CET. Sharing more data, Sardesai said that 69 students who scored between the 40th and 50th percentile in the MHT-CET had scored between the 90th and 100th percentile in JEE (Main), showing that such variations occur across different exams.
According to Sardesai, board examinations and entrance tests follow different formats and assess students differently, which can lead to large differences in scores. Even so, the CET Cell will further examine the records of the 202 students, including their backgrounds and the exam centres where they appeared.
Responding to the allegations of exam centre manipulation, Sardesai said that centres are allotted automatically through a centralised system and cannot be manually changed. He added that this year the CET Cell restricted exam centres to computer laboratories in government and private engineering colleges.

Among the 25 sessions held for the MHT-CET PCM exam, GH Raisoni College of Engineering in Pune had the highest number of students scoring above the 99th percentile, with 222 candidates. It was followed by Thakur College in Kandivali with 133 students, GH Raisoni Technical Institute with 120, Government Engineering College with 108, and Shah and Anchor Kutchhi Engineering College with 99.
CET Cell officials said that the performance data from these centres will also be reviewed as part of the ongoing analysis.
