Delhi and neighbouring areas are still grappling with the effects of Friday evening’s relentless rainfall, even as the National Capital Region prepares for another “good wet day” on Saturday. More rain is likely across the region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rainfall at different times on Saturday.
The weather department expects thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rain during the morning, afternoon and evening of September 5.
Delhi-NCR Waterlogged
Continuous rainfall on Janmashtami left several parts of Delhi-NCR waterlogged and disrupted regular movement across the region.
Flooded roads were reported in Delhi and Gurugram, resulting in traffic congestion at several major
locations.
Waterlogging near Indira Gandhi International Airport also affected the national capital, disrupting flight operations and forcing commuters to make their way through inundated stretches around the terminals.
Independent forecaster Navdeep Dahiya has predicted another spell of heavy rainfall across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad between the afternoon and late evening of September 5. Heavy rain is also expected in parts of Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh.
Dahiya said in a post on X that Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad could see 60-140mm of rainfall, while Delhi and Gurgaon may receive 30-80mm by midnight on September 5.
The forecast indicated that intermittent rain in the first half of the day could be followed by heavy showers from the afternoon through late evening. This could increase the risk of waterlogging during the second half of the day.

Moderate rainfall is expected in Delhi on September 5 under generally cloudy skies. The temperature is likely to stay between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius, while humidity could range from 70 to 95 per cent, according to the IMD’s weekly forecast.
Generally cloudy weather is forecast for September 6, along with light rain or drizzle. Temperatures are expected to remain between 23 and 32 degrees Celsius, with humidity ranging from 65 to 90 per cent.
Weather conditions are likely to become partly cloudy from September 7. The temperature may range between 24 and 34 degrees Celsius, while humidity is expected to remain between 55 and 85 per cent.
Partly cloudy skies are likely to continue on September 8, with temperatures forecast between 25 and 34 degrees Celsius. Humidity may range from 50 to 80 per cent.
The partly cloudy conditions are expected to persist on September 9. Temperatures could remain between 26 and 34 degrees Celsius, while humidity is likely to stay between 50 and 80 per cent.
On September 10, temperatures are expected to range from 25 to 34 degrees Celsius, with humidity between 50 and 80 per cent. Partly cloudy skies are forecast for the day.
