OpenAI has got ChatGPT where it needs to be and the new ChatGPT Go plan will surely entice more people to start using AI tools. But the company is already eyeing the next phase of its evolution and that
will come with a wide range of AI-centric devices.
We’ve seen AI Pin, AI boxes and other gadgets in the market so far with varying results and now the ChatGPT maker is looking to dip its own toes in the less muddy water. According to a report by The Information, the company has not just one but multiple products in the pipeline that we may see introduced in the next few years.
Eyeing The Big Fish
The report claims OpenAI has managed to get one of Apple’s major product suppliers on board to help them make these rumoured AI gadgets. It is pointed out that Sam Altman and Co. want to make glasses, a digital voice recorder with AI built into the platform and even a wearable pin, and one of these could be launched by late next year or early 2027.
OpenAI has already teamed up with Jony Ive’s company to build and design the AI products but the details are very limited for now. Having said that, it is interesting to see devices like glasses and AI Pin in their plans, when Altman has publicly criticised their purpose and is not very keen on the use case of these devices.
Altman has talked about making a gadget that is accessible to everyone, which will be an uncharted territory for the former Apple chief designer but he surely looks keen to make it work.
The prospect of AI-powered hardware comes with mixed feelings but this seems different and we are eager to see how the Altman-Ivy duo succeed where others have failed.
It’s Time, Apple
The fact that OpenAI is moving with some pace for its AI devices means Apple has to buck up its own plans and look at making a serious play in this arena. The overall AI race has been between Google and OpenAI with Apple struggling to make things tick, but hardware is its real playground and it needs a big win here.
