Jannik Sinner knows he’s currently all but lacking against the mighty Carlos Alcaraz.
But, the World No. 2 stated he is confident that it is only a matter of time before his improvements click on court
against the Spaniard.
So far in 2025, tennis’s electric duo have met five times. Alcaraz holds the edge, winning four of those encounters, while Sinner has managed just one. Overall, the Spaniard leads their head-to-head 10–6, with a narrow 3–2 advantage in Grand Slam meetings.
Some of their most memorable encounters this year included:
French Open Final: In perhaps their most dramatic battle yet, Alcaraz recovered from two sets down to beat Sinner in a five-set epic (4–6, 7–6, 4–6, 7–6, 7–6), saving multiple championship points.
Wimbledon Final: Sinner struck back in style, defeating Alcaraz in four sets (4–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–4) to win his first Wimbledon title and end the Spaniard’s perfect record in major finals.
U.S. Open Final: Alcaraz regained control, powering past Sinner 6–2, 3–6, 6–1, 6–4 to reclaim the No. 1 ranking and extend his dominance in the biggest matches.
After halting Alcaraz’s streak at Wimbledon, Sinner has struggled to get the better of his rival, letting some key chances slip away.
‘A Question Of Time’ For Sinner
“We’ve been reflecting a lot on that final,” Sinner said on Wednesday ahead of his China Open campaign in Beijing.
“We’re working on new things and changing a lot of small things. The number of mistakes at the moment is a little bit higher, but I hope that this recovers.
“It’s just a question of time. I don’t know how much I’m able to (implement changes) on the actual match court because one thing is practice and one thing is match,” he added.
“I’m very motivated. It’s great to work on something new, then we’ll see how this ends up.”
The Italian is sharpening his skills before a potential clash with Alcaraz at the Shanghai Masters next month, while the Spaniard prepares for his next test in Tokyo.
