Iran Launches Missiles At Jordan, Claims To Trap ‘Mysterious US Underwater Toy' In Hormuz | Top Updates

US-Iran War: Amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, Tehran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles on a US military base in Jordan in retaliation for American strikes on Iranian oil tankers.

Iranian state media said ballistic missiles were fired at the Al-Azraq base in Jordan in what the IRGC described as a “punitive operation” following US strikes on Iranian vessels.

Jordan Says 18 Missiles Intercepted

Meanwhile, Jordan’s Army said that it intercepted 18 of 20 ballistic missiles launched from Iran towards Jordanian territory, with two falling in unpopulated areas.

“Jordan’s

air defense systems engaged 20 ballistic missiles launched toward Jordanian territory, successfully intercepting and destroying 18 of them, while two missiles fell in unpopulated areas,” the army said in a statement.

IRGC Claims ‘Heavy Damage’ At Jordan Base

The IRGC said a “significant number” of solid- and liquid-fuel ballistic missiles hit areas at the base used for the maintenance, preparation and deployment of US fighter aircraft.

According to the IRGC, areas associated with F-35, F-16 and F-15 fighter jets, along with aircraft shelters, were hit.

The Iranian military group claimed the attack caused “heavy damage” to US forces.

“In this operation, to punish the aggressor with a heavy attack of solid and liquid fuel ballistic missiles, the hangar for maintenance, preparation and deployment of F-35, F-16, F-15 fighter jets, and the fighter shelter were hit, causing heavy damage to the enemy”, the statement said.

Iranian media also reported that several missiles were fired towards the base, while footage from Jordan showed projectiles in the sky.

Iran Warns Tankers In Kuwait, Bahrain

Iran’s IRGC Navy has also warned oil tanker crews near ports in Kuwait and Bahrain to leave their vessels.

The warning applied to tankers that were either anchored or docked at the ports, Iranian state media reported.

The IRGC accused Kuwait and Bahrain of hosting US forces and supporting American military operations.

“We warn all crews aboard oil tankers in the vicinity of ports in Kuwait and Bahrain — which host these (American) terrorists and are partners in their hostile actions — to immediately leave their vessels, whether they are at anchor or docked at the ports, as the vessels will be targeted,” the IRGC said, accusing Kuwait and Bahrain of hosting US forces and supporting their actions.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, meanwhile, warned that Washington would respond to every Iranian attempt to attack US naval vessels.

Iran Claims US ‘Most Mysterious Toy’ Captured

Amid the escalating confrontation, the IRGC also claimed it had captured a US unmanned underwater vehicle near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian state media said the ​vessel was a Dive-LD, a large autonomous underwater vehicle built by ⁠California defense firm Anduril.

“We trapped one of the most modern, intelligent and unmanned submarines of the terrorist American army at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. This submersible is ​equipped with the latest technologies,” the Revolutionary Guards Navy said in a statement ​carried by Iranian state media.

In response, a Pentagon spokesperson said an underwater drone had “malfunctioned more than ‌a ⁠day ago.” “It was surveying regional waters in support of ongoing operations. The defective drone was an older model that neither collected sensitive data nor carried any classified sonar or radar equipment,” the spokesperson said.

Attack Follows US Strikes On Iranian Tankers

The missile attack came hours after the US military said it had destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers following attempted Iranian missile attacks on a US Navy warship.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said four vessels were struck in the Gulf of Oman and another near Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf.

The US said the warship successfully evaded two Iranian ballistic missile attacks and that no American personnel were injured.

CENTCOM also said the crews of the tankers were ordered to abandon the vessels before the ships were struck and rendered inoperable.

Oil Prices Rise Amid Escalation

The latest exchange of attacks also pushed oil prices higher.

Brent crude futures rose more than 1.5% in early Wednesday trading, while US West Texas Intermediate crude also gained more than 1.7%, as markets reacted to the widening conflict and concerns over regional oil supplies.
