A ritual meant to symbolise devotion and purity has sparked intense discussion. Pouring milk into the Ganga, known as Dugdhabhishek, is a common Hindu ritual meant to express gratitude and devotion. Devotees often perform it as an offering to Goddess Ganga or during worship of the Shivling.
But a video has surfaced online that has raised questions about the ritual’s relevance when it intersects with real-world need.
Man Immerses Milk In Ganga Instead Of Offering To Poor Kids
The clip shows a man performing Dugdh Abhishek when a few girls appear nearby with utensils in an attempt to collect the flowing milk for themselves. The devotee notices them and immediately adjusts his position so the milk does not fall into their containers.
The video was
shared by a journalist on X with the caption: “A devotee is immersing milk into the Ganga Ji, while some poor little girls arrive with their pots and start taking the milk. But….”

Ritual Or Responsibility? The Online Debate
While the video is short, it struck a chord with viewers who raised questions about the balance between performing a sacred ritual and meeting practical human needs.
One user commented, “This milk was more essential for these poor people than for this river.”
Another added, “Terrible truth about how temples create so much waste that could have easily been distributed to the poor and needy. Always makes me wonder how people who worship Gods can simply not be more human themselves.”
“If he had just given milk to the kids, he would’ve earned a lot more good karma, bro,” someone else wrote.
“Ye paap dhona hua ya paap par chuna karna hua? (Was this washing away the sins, or just whitewashing them?),” a person remarked.
An individual questioned, “If faith is about compassion, should milk be offered to a river—or to hungry children standing nearby?”
Not all viewers criticised the man. Some defended his actions with one viewer writing, “His devotion is not meant for that girl, that’s why he’s not giving it. We should respect everyone’s devotion.”
Grok Steps In
A user consulted chatbot Grok to understand the incident’s wider significance. The AI chatbot responded, “The video captures a poignant clash: a devotee pours milk into the Ganga as a ritual offering, while poor children attempt to collect it for themselves, only to be shooed away. It underscores the tension between sacred traditions and stark realities of need.”
It further mentioned that although such cultural practices have deep roots, scenes like this “invite thoughts on balancing faith with practicality.”
