Anil Kapoor, in an illustrious career, has given some of the most memorable and biggest hits, and one of the many most loved movies of the actor is Nayak. The political drama still continues to earn love from
the audience, and fans have been demanding a sequel to the 2001 starrer. Now, a report suggests that Anil Kapoor has acquired the rights to the film.
As per a Bollywood Hungama report, “Producer Deepak Mukut of Sanam Teri Kasam (2016) fame held the rights to Nayak. It is said that Anil Kapoor has bought the rights from him. He plans to hold the rights as it’s a film close to his heart. Also, he aspires to make a sequel to it. He is fully aware of the love he has garnered for the film over the years, and he also believes that the subject of Nayak has tremendous potential for a second part.”
Earlier, while speaking to the portal, Deepak shared, “I got the rights from Nayak’s producer, Mr. A. S. Rathnam. I also have the negative rights to his other films like Tejasvini (1994), Dil Hi Dil Mein (1999), etc. It was 10 years ago that I procured these rights.”
Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, and Amrish Puri’s political film Nayak: The Real Hero was released on September 7, 2001. The film, directed by S. Shankar, was a remake of his 1999 Tamil film Mudhalvan. Nayak has recently completed 24 years. On the occasion of the film’s 24th anniversary, Anil Kapoor shared several stills from Nayak in his latest Instagram post. In his caption, Anil Kapoor wrote, “Some roles define you. Nayak was one of them. First offered to Aamir & Shah Rukh, but I knew I had to live this character… and I’m grateful Shankar sir trusted me. I’ll always cherish Shah Rukh’s words on that stage: ‘This role was meant for Anil.’ Moments like these stay forever. #24YearsOfNayak.”
Shah Rukh Khan was present at Nayak’s audio release party in 2001. He joined the event to show his support for the film. At the event, SRK said, “I ran from the shooting and came here. For two reasons. One, because a very, very close friend of mine is acting in it: Anil Kapoor. And of course, even Rani is there. And I came here to wish them.”
