iOS 27 Feature To Use One Phone Number on Two iPhones Will Not Come To India Tonight After iOS 27 Launch

Apple’s iOS 27 update, rolling out on September 14, brings a feature called iPhone Handoff that lets a single phone number work across two iPhones, switching automatically to whichever one is active. At Apple’s September 9 event, iPhone product marketing vice president Kaiann Drance said the number becomes live on whichever device the owner picks up.

The feature depends entirely on carrier backing, and just two networks have it working at launch: T-Mobile in the US and Deutsche Telekom in Germany. Verizon and EE are expected to add support by the end of 2026, with more carriers likely to follow. No Indian telecom operator has announced support yet, so the feature will not work in India for now.

Pricing Varies By Carrier

Where iPhone Handoff does work, carriers are pricing

it differently. T-Mobile charges $5 a month, close to Rs 440. Deutsche Telekom doesn’t bill separately for it, instead bundling it under its MultiSIM service priced at €6.95 a month, which is also included with some existing plans. Apple’s own support documentation stays non-committal, simply noting that carrier charges may apply.

How Setup And Switching Work

Both iPhones need iOS 27 and must be signed into the same Apple ID. To set it up, users go to Cellular in Settings on the second iPhone and choose either “Set up Cellular” or “Add eSIM,” followed by the transfer option. Once configured, unlocking either phone shows a “Switched to this iPhone” prompt confirming which device currently holds the number.

Only one iPhone can carry the active line at any moment. Calls, voicemail, text messages and Find My location tracking all follow whichever phone is currently active, while iCloud data and third-party apps stay synced across both devices regardless of which one is live. This makes the feature suited to people who split time between a work phone and a personal one, or who own an iPhone Duo alongside a device like the iPhone 18 Pro.
