Taylor Swift References Travis Kelce Throughout The Life of a Showgirl
The album mixes theatrical pop with heartfelt ballads and includes lyrical nods to her fiance, Travis Kelce. On the opening track The Fate of Ophelia, she references her iconic Fourth of July 2023 photo with friends, singing: “Swore my loyalty to me, myself and I / Right before you lit my sky up.”
She also includes Kelce’s favourite phrase, “Keep it 100,” and continues, “Pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes.”
Meaning Behind Tracks Like Opalite and Eldest Daughter
Opalite is a nod to Kelce’s October birthstone, with Swift singing: “But now the sky is opalite / Oh my lord, never met no one like you before.”
Track 5, Eldest Daughter, explores finding love she once doubted: “When you found me I said I was busy / That was a lie” and “When I said I don’t believe in marriage that was a lie / Every eldest daughter was the first lamb to the slaughter. Every youngest child felt they were raised up in the wild / But now you’re home.”
Taylor Swift’s Steamy and Playful Lyrics on Wi$h Li$t and Wood
In Wi$h Li$t, Swift shares her desire for love over wealth: “I made wishes on all of the stars / Please, God, bring me a best friend / Who I think is hot.”
On Wood, the double entendre shines: “It’s you and me forever, dancing in the dark / But for me it’s understood, I ain’t got to knock on wood. Redwood tree, it ain’t hard to see / His love was the key to open my thighs.”
Engagement Hints and Sweet Endearments in Honey
Swift predicts her engagement with, “Girls I don’t need to catch the bouquet, mm, to know a hard rock is on the way.”
She also incorporates Kelce’s endearments from the New Heights podcast on Honey: “But you touch my face / Redefine all of those blues / When you say honey.”
