US President Donald Trump has hinted at “good news” on the diplomatic front, saying a second round of talks with Iran could restart within the next 36 to 72 hours, according to a report by the New York Post.
The report, citing a text message exchange with Trump and sources in Pakistan, said there are fresh signs of progress in efforts to revive negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Pakistan, which has been acting as a mediator, is understood to have conveyed optimism about renewed engagement between the two sides.
“Good news” on a second round of talks could come as early as Friday, the report noted, with sources in Islamabad pointing to positive backchannel efforts. When asked about the possibility, Trump replied: “It’s possible! President
DJT.”

The latest developments come amid uncertainty over the timing of talks. US Vice President JD Vance had been expected to travel to Pakistan on Wednesday, but the visit was abruptly called off.
A White House official said the trip would not take place as planned, adding that “any further updates on in-person meetings will be announced.”
Iran’s negotiating delegation has also delayed a decision on attending the proposed talks.
The first round of US-Iran discussions held in Islamabad earlier this month ended without a breakthrough, failing to produce an agreement to end the war that began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
Early on Wednesday, Trump also said he would extend the current ceasefire with Iran to allow more time for diplomacy, while maintaining pressure through military measures. In a post on Truth Social, he said the ceasefire would continue until Iran presents a “unified proposal” for ending the conflict.
At the same time, Trump confirmed that the US naval blockade of Iranian ports would remain in place. He said the US military would stay “ready and able” while waiting for Tehran’s response.
