Vishal Krishna Reddy, popularly known as Vishal, is one of the most celebrated actors in Tamil cinema. The star, who started his career in 2004 with the romantic drama Chellame, got his breakthrough role
in Lingusamy’s commercial entertainer Sandakozhi.
The film, which made Vishal an overnight sensation, was not written for him. In fact, he had to convince the director to cast him in Sandakozhi.
Vishal Recalls Convincing Lingusamy to Cast Him in Sandakozhi
During the latest podcast of his YouTube channel, the actor recalled the time and shared, “Lingusamy was a close friend of mine. He used to work with my father as an assistant director. So after making my debut in Chellame, I heard that Lingusamy had a story in mind. I took my bike and went straight to Lingusamy’s office right away. I told him that I would do this role.” The actor also revealed that it was not easy for him to convince Lingusamy because the story was originally written for Thalapathy Vijay. “He told me that the story was written for Thalapathy Vijay, a mass hero and how can I make this with you? But I told him to just wait for ten days till the release of Chellame. You please go watch that movie. I really need this movie, man,” Vishal narrated the conversation.
‘I Was Willing to Wait Even Two Years,’ Vishal Reveals His Strong Desire For Sandakozhi
The Tamil superstar further shared that despite liking his debut, Chellame, Lingusamy was sceptical about casting him in Sandakozhi and took time to make his decision. “At my house, everyone was asking me why I wasn’t committing to any film after my successful debut, so I told them I was willing to wait even two years for this script. I told them this film (Sandakozhi) would do me the good of ten films, if everything works out. That’s when Lingusamy finally agreed. From that point onwards, my career has only moved forward,” Vishal shared.
Vishal’s Upcoming Projects
The actor, who was last seen in the action comedy Madha Gaja Raja earlier this year, is all set to make his directorial debut with the upcoming film Magudam. The film was originally to be directed by Ravi Arasu, but Vishal took over the role midway due to creative differences. Alongside Vishal, Magudam also stars Dushara Vijayan, Yogi Babu and Anjali in other prominent roles.
