Is the concept of marriage an outdated institution? Well, Jaya Bachchan certainly thinks so. The veteran actress expressed that her granddaughter, Navya Naveli Nanda, should enjoy life without having to
conform to the societal norm.
The 77-year-old joined a panel discussion with We The Women in Mumbai, where the actress sparked conversation surrounding the legality of marriage.
Jaya Bachchan Wants Navya To ‘Enjoy’ Her Life
During the discussion, the actress was asked whether she would be fine with seeing Navya follow in her footsteps and leave her career after getting married. To which Jaya Bachchan replied, “I don’t want Navya to get married.” When the host asked her opinion on whether marriage is an outdated institution, Bachchan said, “Yes, absolutely. I am a grandmother now. Navya turns 28 in a few days. I am too old to advise young girls on how to bring up children.”
She further added, “Things have changed so much, and today little children are so smart they will outsmart you.”
Jaya Bachchan Compares Weddings With Delhi-Ka Ladoo
The actress, who herself has been married for over 50 years to Amitabh Bachchan, explained the concept of a wedding by comparing it with Delhi-ka ladoo. “Khao toh mushily, na khao toh bhi mushily. But just enjoy life!”
Jaya Bachchan and Navya Naveli Nanda have previously been seen sharing their extraordinary and progressive thoughts on Navya’s podcast. While speaking on the topic of having children without marriage, the actress claimed it was not this free in her time when she was young, but highlighted the need for emotional and mental compatibility as important.
Sharing her thoughts on the topic, Bachchan stated, “People will find it objectionable coming from me, but physical attraction and compatibility are also very important. In our times, we couldn’t experiment, but today’s generation does, and why shouldn’t they? Because that also is responsible for a long-lasting relationship.”
What Do We Know About Navya?
