The FIFA World Cup 2026 hit Indian football fans like a truck and served as a rude reminder that the country may perhaps never play the glorious sport at the highest level while simultaneously watching the other nations participating and celebrating the game with their opponents with incredible passion and enthusiasm. One such football fan behind the successful YouTube channel called ‘Talk Football ET’ went on a rant a few weeks ago after the Blue Tigers lost 0-2 to Jamaica.
Zeeshan Khan, the face of the YouTube channel ‘Talk Football HD’, shared a breakdown on everything that was wrong with Indian football. He rued their poor tactical structure, lack of intensity, player development issues, and the growing gap between India and stronger footballing
nations. He further touched upon India’s future and the areas of improvement that Indian footballers desperately needed to address.
However, it was Zeeshan’s recent appearance on a stream talking about the lack of financial backing in football that hindered its growth while cricket thrived under the richest board in the world, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Why Does BCCI Not Fund Football?
Zeeshan was presumably quizzed by a superchat during his livestream and asked why the cricket board did not invest money in football. The content creator said: “Unko pata hai, ek baar India ka football rise up kar gaya na, khatam ho jaayega bhai cricket. Done ho jaayega. Then and there. Isliye koi aisi private organisation nahi chahti bhai, they don’t want to hamper what they have already established. Woh cultural change woh nahi chahte hain. (They [BCCI] know that once the football rises, cricket will cease to exist in the country. That is why no private organisation wants to invest in football, they don’t want to hamper what they have already established. They do not want that cultural change to happen in the country).”
Why can’t Indian football fans just stick to football instead of dragging cricket into everything with low-IQ logic

Why Will BCCI Invest In Another Sport?
The obvious response from the cricket community was one of puzzlement. Why would the Indian cricket board despite its riches, put their money into football?
“BCCI wasn’t rich; it improved from rags to riches. Even now, I hear my dad telling stories about Lata Mangeshkar organizing concerts just to pay the winning award of cricketers. It grew among hegemony like ECB, CA, and it started growing when players showed results rather than whining about other games. Now, it has developed systematic programs for future development. Why should it focus on other forms even if it should focus? Then at least show some results,” a Reddit user, responding to the clipped stream video of the football content creator, wrote.
Away on X, cricket fans weren’t as polite.
“Why is BCCI not funding my europe trip? (sic),” mocked one user.
“A country of 156,000 people Curaçao & Cape Verde qualifies for the World Cup while a country of 1.4 billion doesn’t, you can’t keep blaming infrastructure and money alone. India has more stadiums, leagues, academies, and resources. The problem is how those resources are being used (sic),” wrote another.

Outrage On Out-of-Context Clip?
While the Internet instantly jumped the gun to mock Zeeshan Khan’s skewed logic, stating that both sports existed independently, a few viewers of ‘Talk Football HD’ revealed that it was said in jest. Someone in the comments had brought up BCCI during his football watch-along, and Zeeshan decided to play along.
After being bombarded with comments on his Instagram page, Zeeshan did reveal that the context was lost in the online outrage. But he did double down on his opinion about how a big private firm funding football could dismantle cricket’s mighty presence in the country.

“Please don’t misunderstand the context here. Nobody is blaming cricket. The point was- why no private entity as big as BCCI invests in Indian Football. As they fear it would replace cricket as an already established platform in India as fan support will be overwhelming. People have a knack of getting offended unnecessarily these days. Hence the explanation. Cheers,” he wrote in an Instagram comment.
“Please Let Us Play”
Earlier this year, Indian footballers appealed directly to FIFA to rescue them after AIFF’s paralysis left Indian football in crisis, with careers and the ISL season stalled.
In a powerful video shared by national team goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, players from across the Indian Super League laid bare the scale of the crisis and the failure of Indian football’s governing body.
