Dharmendra passes away: Veteran actor Dharmendra has died at the age of 89 and the film fraternity is gathering to bid him a final farewell. Among the earliest to arrive at the crematorium were his co-stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. Ranveer had shared the screen with the veteran actor in director Karan Johar’s hit film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023). That film, in which Dharmendra made one of his last big-screen appearances, as of now, won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The late actor’s final big-screen outing will be Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis, set to hit the screens on Christmas 2025.

Tears At Funeral
Earlier today, at around noon, Dharmendra’s mortal remains were transported from his Juhu residence in an ambulance, with family cars trailing behind en route to the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai’s Vile Parle. Among the mourners were his wife Hema Malini, daughter Esha Deol and son Sunny Deol, all seen visibly emotional as they arrived. Also present were industry stalwarts such as Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt.

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who directed Dharmendra in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, posted an emotional note on Instagram. Sharing a photo of the late megastar, he wrote, “It is an end of an ERA….. a massive mega star… the embodiment of a HERO in mainstream cinema… incredibly handsome and the most enigmatic screen presence … he is and will always be a bonafide Legend of Indian Cinema… defining and richly present in the pages of cinema history … but mostly he was the best human being… he was so loved by everyone in our industry …. He only had immense love and positivity for everyone … his blessings, his hug and his incredible warmth will be missed more than words can describe …. Today there is a gaping hole in our industry … a space that can never be filled by anyone … there will always be the one and only DHARAMJI… we love you kind Sir…. We will miss you so much…. The heavens are blessed today…. It will always be my blessing to have worked with you…. And my heart says with respect, reverence and love…. Abhi Na jao chodke…. Ke dil abhi bhara nahi……OM SHANTI.”
Dharmendra had recently been discharged from Breach Candy Hospital after treatment for breathlessness and was recovering at home under doctor supervision. Doctors had been monitoring him daily, and although his condition had briefly improved after his discharge, he eventually succumbed to his illness.
