Asha Bhosle, the iconic Guinness World Record-holding legendary singer, passed away on April 12 at the age of 92 at Breach Candy Hospital. Following her demise, when News18 Showsha contacted veteran singer and composer Lesle Lewis, who famously collaborated with the legendary playback singer on some of the most popular Indi-pop tracks in the 1990s, he recalled her as his “Aai” (mother in Marathi).
Speaking about thelate Asha Bhosle, Lewis shared, “Asha ji… my Aai… some presences don’t leave. They just become music in the air. Today feels like that… like a note still hanging, unfinished… waiting for her to complete it. Asha ji was never just a voice. She was a feeling. A smile in a phrase, a tear in a note, a whisper that could become a storm.
She didn’t sing songs… she gave them a heartbeat. And she made it feel effortless… as if music flowed through her.”

Recalling the time he collaborated with the legendary artiste, Leslee continued, “Working with her felt like entering a quiet temple of music. She would listen, absorb, and then gently lift the song into something deeper… without ever overpowering it. Just grace.
And her heart… so open. When she said, “Uske bina yeh gaana nahi hota,” it was not just appreciation… it was her way of giving, of lifting others.”
Leslee also shared that it is that “light in her eyes… that childlike wonder” that will always stay with him. “She cannot belong to the past. She is… and she will always be,” he added.

He concluded on an emotional note, saying, “Today, there is an ache. But there is also gratitude. That we lived in her time. That we heard her. That we were shaped by her. Asha ji hasn’t gone anywhere. She has become part of everything. Every note. Every silence. Every song. Because legends like her don’t end. They become the music itself.”
