'Did Well With Bat & Ball But...': Harmanpreet Kaur Laments India's One Woe Despite Big Win

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has said that although her team was good with both bat and ball in the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Vizag on Sunday, December 21, it is a wonder why her team still goes

on to miss multiple catches despite vigorous fielding sessions.

India were dominant with both bat and ball in their emphatic eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20I and Harmanpreet promised an improved fielding effort from her team in the next game.

Indian cricketers endured a below-par day in the field, spilling a few regulation catches, even though they managed to restrict Sri Lanka to a modest 121/6.

“Yeah, did well with bat and ball, but fielding is something we are really working hard on. But I don’t know why we keep dropping catches but yeah, next match we will come up with an even better approach,” Harmanpreet said while speaking at the post-match presentation.

“It is wet (because of dew), no doubt about it, but it is no excuse. We know these conditions are going to be there. I think that is something which we really need to think about because in crucial matches these things can cost us,” Harmanpreet added.

Asked whether her team was ready to bat first, post a total and defend it, Harmanpreet said, “Well, we are also playing after almost a month (since the ODI World Cup triumph), so we don’t want to unnecessarily challenge ourselves.”

“I think I feel whatever the condition is, just think how we can do better for our team, so I think today was something we wanted to bowl first and then chase. I think will really did well, so I don’t want to unnecessarily keep challenging ourselves,” Harmanpreet added.

Jemimah Rodrigues executed her shots with great skill and style en route to a scintillating, unbeaten 44-ball 69 as India crushed Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the first Women’s T20I.

India play the second T20I against Sri Lanka on Tuesday at the same venue.
