UK's Starmer Says Ex-Prince Andrew Should Testify Before Congress Over Jeffrey Epstein Ties

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Saturday that Britain’s former Prince Andrew should testify before a US congressional committee following the release of new US Justice Department files detailing his links to late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The documents published on Friday by the United States Department of Justice include emails showing Andrew remained in contact with Epstein for more than two years after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for child sex crimes.

The files also contain redacted images that appear to show Andrew crouching over and touching the waist of an unidentified woman lying on the floor.

Speaking to reporters while travelling to Japan after a four-day visit to China, Starmer said the former prince should

cooperate fully with US lawmakers probing the Epstein case.

“Anybody who has got information should be prepared to share that information in whatever form they are asked to do that,” Starmer said.

“You can’t be victim-centred if you’re not prepared to do that.”

Reuters reported that Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor after being stripped of his royal titles by his brother King Charles III, has denied wrongdoing and previously said he cut ties with Epstein after the financier’s conviction, except for a 2010 visit to New York to end their relationship.

Members of a US congressional committee renewed calls in November for Andrew to answer questions, while the newly released files show that Epstein and Andrew discussed possible business deals, social meetings and introductions to women, including one email in which Epstein offered to bring three women to Buckingham Palace.

According to the Associated Press, Andrew’s name shows up hundreds of times in Epstein’s correspondence, alongside invitations to dine at Buckingham Palace, and offers to introduce him to women.

AP also detailed the presence of technology and business leaders such as Elon Musk, Richard Branson and Bill Gates, as well as media and sports executive Jonathan Tisch in the Epstein files.

Branson’s company said any dealings with Epstein were limited and quoted him as believing Epstein’s actions were “abhorrent and supported the right to justice for his many victims.”

Other names cited by the AP include Olympic committee president Casey Wasserman, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, convicted Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Slovak diplomat Miroslav Lajcak, who resigned after his correspondence appeared in the files.

Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.
