Gurugram, Aug 27 (PTI) A six-year-old child died allegedly after drowning in the deep waters of a pond near Chhath Ghat in Devi Lal Colony here on Thursday, police said.
The deceased child was identified as Ankush, who had lost his father and was living with his mother at his maternal uncle’s house in Devi Lal Colony, they said.
According to police, Ankush was playing with other children in the neighbourhood when he wandered towards the pond. The children entered the water to bathe amid heat and humidity, police said.
While playing, Ankush moved into a deeper section of the pond and began drowning. The other children raised an alarm, following which locals rushed to the spot and started searching for him, according to police.
After some effort,
a few youths pulled Ankush out of the pond and took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead, police said.
Police reached the spot after being informed and initiated an investigation.
Local residents alleged that the pond has remained in a dangerous condition for a long time.
They claimed they have submitted written complaints to authorities, including the local councillor and municipal corporation officials, demanding removal of the filthy water from the deep pond, but no action has been taken. PTI COR SMV PRK
