Apple is expanding iCloud with new photo-sharing, smart-home and Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27. The update is currently available in beta and is scheduled for a public release alongside the new iPhone lineup in September.
For users in India, several improvements will work with the free 5GB iCloud allowance. However, advanced HomeKit camera intelligence and higher Apple Intelligence limits will require an eligible iCloud+ subscription and supported hardware.
iCloud Photos Gets Faster Uploads
iOS 27 will begin uploading photographs to iCloud sooner, helping images appear more quickly across an iPhone, iPad, Mac and iCloud.com.
A new Prioritise Syncing option can temporarily force all pending photographs and videos to upload regardless of the
iPhone’s battery status. The setting remains active for 24 hours before switching off automatically.
This may help users moving to a new device or uploading a large library, although it can increase battery and mobile-data consumption. Indian users relying on limited cellular plans should preferably activate it while connected to Wi-Fi.
Shared Albums Open to Android and Windows
Apple is making iCloud Shared Albums more useful for families and groups that do not exclusively use Apple devices. Friends using Android phones or Windows computers will be able to join an album and contribute photographs through iCloud.com.
Shared Albums will also retain photographs and videos at full resolution. New filtering, reactions and invitation controls are being added.
This is particularly relevant in India, where mixed Android and iPhone groups are common and sharing through third-party messaging apps can reduce image quality.
HomeKit Cameras Receive AI Summaries
Compatible HomeKit Secure Video cameras can generate written descriptions of recorded activity, such as identifying a person or animal. Related events captured across multiple cameras can be grouped together, while users can search recorded footage for specific activity.
These Apple Intelligence features require an iCloud+ plan with at least 2TB of storage, currently priced at Rs 749 per month in India. Users also need a compatible home hub and an Apple Intelligence-supported iPhone.
HomeKit cameras will support recording at up to 4K resolution, although this particular improvement does not require Apple Intelligence.
Indian iCloud+ Prices
Apple currently charges Rs 75 per month for 50GB, Rs 219 for 200GB and Rs 749 for 2TB in India. The 6TB and 12TB plans cost Rs 2,999 and Rs 5,900 per month, respectively.
Most paid plans will also provide higher daily limits for selected Apple Intelligence tools. Apple has not disclosed the exact limits or every eligible feature.
Siri, Passwords and Collaboration Improvements
Siri conversations will sync through iCloud, allowing users to revisit or continue chats across supported Apple devices. The Passwords app can use Apple Intelligence to identify and help replace weak credentials.
iCloud collaboration links will receive richer previews, access-request controls and faster loading on iCloud.com. The Journal app will also show the synchronisation status of individual entries.
