A disturbing incident has come to light from Delhi where a Swiggy customer alleged that they were “harassed and abused” by the delivery agent after there was some confusion over the payment. Despite paying for the food, a technical mix-up on the app marked the order as unpaid which led to a string of angry calls from the agent that left the customer shaken.
“I ordered food from Swiggy on COD, and a delivery person contacted me for it and delivered the order and took the money. The order was correct,” the user wrote in a post on Reddit. The problem started soon after. Even after 10 minutes, the order was still not marked as delivered on the app.
“I called the delivery person and asked him to mark the order delivered. He said he already has, it
must be a glitch,” they added.
Another Delivery Call
The situation became more confusing when another delivery agent called a few minutes later and said he had arrived with the same order. The user explained, “I told him I already got it and paid for it, so he asked me to cancel it.” Trying to sort it out, the person contacted Swiggy’s customer support, informed them of the issue and requested a cancellation.
“Instead of cancelling, they delivered it marked,” the post continued.
Harassment From Delivery Agent
After that, the same delivery agent called again but this time in an aggressive tone. “He literally screamed that ‘order deliver kyu mark kiya, main kaise paise dunga, haram ka khane ki aadat pad gayi hai’ (Why did you mark the order as delivered? How will I pay the money now? You people have gotten used to eating for free),” the Redditor wrote.
The user said they repeatedly tried to explain that they hadn’t done anything wrong but the man kept shouting and calling back again and again. “He was literally abusing and harassing me by calling at least 30 times. I finally reported the incident but still shook. Feeling sad for him but also was it my fault anywhere?” the user added.
How People Reacted Online
The post drew a lot of attention with many expressing shock over what the user went through and others sharing advice on how to handle such situations.
One user commented, “Far from your fault! Sorry you went through it. Next time, just cut the call if the delivery person loses temper and reach out to the support team again.”
Another added, “After just 5 of those calls I would have blocked him, you still made it to 30, so humble man.”
“Talk with them in the same tone they’re talking to you. Teach them how it’s done,” someone else said.
Others Share Similar Experiences
Several people joined the discussion by sharing similar incidents with other apps.
An individual wrote, “Same happened with me in the Ola app. I booked a ride, gave OTP, started moving, then another driver called saying he was waiting at the location. I uninstalled the app.”
“Similarly, I once booked a Rapido auto from my office. Mistakenly, the auto-location that the app picked was 30 mtr away from my location. The guy called. I asked him to come after explaining the location has been picked automatically. Must be some glitch. He abused. Disconnected the phone and even a message full of abuses. What has happened to people nowadays! I realised not everyone deserves the same kind of respect. I’m sure most of the drivers are doing it because of their weak financial conditions but many actually deserve to be there in life because of their behaviour. You just can’t generalise everyone as “bechara gareeb”,” shared a Redditor.
Some Suspect Possible Scam
A few users felt there might have been more to the situation than just confusion. They suggested that the second delivery person could have been connected to the first one and that both might have been trying to avoid paying Swiggy for the order.
