The organisers of the 2025 MAMA Awards have confirmed that the ceremony in Hong Kong will go ahead as planned, despite widespread concern following a major fire in the city’s Tai Po district. The two-day
event is set for November 28 and 29 at Kai Tak Stadium.
Questions about a possible cancellation or delay surfaced after a massive residential fire on November 26 left dozens dead and hundreds missing. According to MyDaily, the organising team held several on-site meetings and concluded that the awards ceremony would not be postponed, though the event is expected to be more subdued in light of the tragedy. Many attending artists were already travelling to Hong Kong at the time of the incident.
The MAMA Awards Secretariat released an official statement addressing the situation:
**”Hello, this is the MAMA AWARDS Secretariat. We are taking the seriousness of the current fire situation in the Tai Po region of Hong Kong very seriously, and the MAMA AWARDS organizing committee is rapidly discussing appropriate response measures for each category. In addition to official responses related to the awards ceremony and event operations, we are also carefully reviewing matters concerning artist performances and award presentation scripts. We will share updates as soon as everything is finalised. To prevent confusion and ensure accurate communication, we kindly ask for your cooperation in directing all external media and public inquiries through the CJ ENM and Mnet communications team. Once again, we sincerely apologise for the concern caused to all artists and related parties, and the organising committee will carefully review the situation and work to determine the best possible course of action. Thank you.

The blaze, one of Hong Kong’s deadliest in recent years, broke out in a high-rise residential complex on November 26. At least 36 deaths have been confirmed, while 279 individuals remain missing. The affected area lies approximately 21 kilometres, about a 20-minute drive, from the MAMA venue.
In the aftermath, notable presenters such as Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh have reportedly withdrawn from the event.
Separate from the concerns surrounding the fire, the MAMA Awards have already generated significant excitement with the announcement of this year’s nominees. Fans across the world are preparing for competitive voting rounds ahead of the ceremony.
Voting for the Fans’ Choice segment begins on October 26 at 11:59 pm KST. The top 20 artists from the pre-vote stage will move to the main round, scheduled from October 30 to November 10.
BLACKPINK continues its global winning streak with several major nominations. Rosé’s hit single Apt, which has already won international recognition including an MTV VMA, has helped her secure multiple nods, including Best Female Artist and Best Collaboration for her track with Bruno Mars.
Jennie is nominated in several key categories as well: Best Female Artist, Best Dance Performance (Female Solo) for Like Jennie, and Best Music Video for Zen. BLACKPINK also earned a nomination for Best Dance Performance (Female Group) for Jump.
BTS’ Jin and J-Hope, both recently returning to the spotlight after completing military service, are among the leading contenders in the Best Male Artist category. J-Hope’s Mona Lisa is also in the running for Best Dance Performance (Male Solo).
G-Dragon, Baekhyun, and Mark round out the list of major solo male nominees, while SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids, and TXT dominate the Best Male Group lineup.
