Ghaziabad (UP), Apr 5 (PTI) Two Ghaziabad residents drowned in the Ganga river in Haridwar after they slipped into deep waters while taking a holy dip on Sunday morning, police said.
The two residents of Rajnagar extension had gone to Hardiwar on Saturday night with their families.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Nandgram, Ziauddin Ahmad, said the deceased have been identified as Brijesh Kumar Tripathi (43) and Sachin Tyagi (39), both residents of Quantum society in the Nandgram police station area. The mortal remains of the two are being brought back by road.
Ravindra Tyagi, a close friend of the deceased, on Sunday went to Haridwar to bring back their bodies.
He told PTI that while taking a bath in the Ganga, Brijesh and Sachin went into
the deep waters. One of them was swept away by the strong currents and the other died while trying to save the first one.
Onlookers alerted police, who reached the spot and pulled out the two men from the river with the help of local divers. They were rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, he said.
According to Tyagi, the last rites of Brijesh and Sachin will be held on Sunday evening. PTI COR NAV DIV DIV
