Around 7,500 kg of allegedly adulterated paneer was seized from four dairies in Haryana’s Nuh district during a late-night raid on illegal paneer-making units, an official said on Saturday.
The crackdown has caused concern among dairy operators in the area, with several reportedly shutting their units amid fears of similar action.
The raid was carried out on Thursday night by a joint team comprising Food Safety Officer Vikas Jaglan, SDM Amit Kumar, Sadar police station SHO Naresh Kumar, Tehsildar Sanjeev Nagar and officials from the Pollution Department.
The team inspected Yusuf Dairy, Khalid-Israel Dairy, Pandit Dairy and Saddam Dairy, where officials found and seized a large quantity of prepared paneer.
The action comes a month after the government
ordered a one-year ban on paneer production in Nuh. Despite the order, officials said more than three dozen illegal paneer-making units are still operating in the district.
Officials said paneer made at some dairies in the Punhana area is allegedly supplied to major cities in the region, including Delhi, Faridabad, Gurugram, Noida and Mathura.
Explaining the reason for the inspection, an official said, “Due to suspicions of adulteration, the administration inspected the paneer being produced at these dairies as well as the ingredients used in its manufacture.”
The latest crackdown has led several dairy operators to close their units temporarily, fearing that they could also come under scrutiny.
The seized paneer was allegedly adulterated, though the information provided does not specify what substances were found in it or whether laboratory test results have been released.
