Hyderabad, Sep 8 (PTI) Two BRS MLCs were arrested on Tuesday in connection with a case registered against them over alleged derogatory remarks against Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, but were later released after a city court rejected their remand, police said.
A case was registered against Tata Madhusudhan and N Naveen Kumar Reddy under relevant sections of the BNS and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act following which they were taken into custody, a police official said.
After their arrest, police produced both the MLCs before the court of First Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate here.
BRS counsels filed remand rejection petitions.
The court declined police seeking their remand and directed Madhusudan and Kumar to furnish a personal
bond of Rs 20,000 each with two surities each.
Earlier, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Assembly Speaker, in a complaint lodged at Saifabad police station, accused Madhusudhan and Kumar, of using derogatory and abusive language against the Speaker on September 7.
The comments were allegedly made when police stopped the opposition legislators from entering the legislature premises.
The complainant stated Madhusudhan and Kumar launched a “malicious, unprovoked, and premeditated verbal tirade” targeting the Speaker.
“They (two BRS MLCs) have publicly questioned the integrity, authority, and constitutional conduct of the Speaker, deliberately using terms calculated to humiliate, demean, degrade, and lower the personal and social standing of the Speaker on account of his social background and constitutional role,” the complainant said, adding they acted with malice to demean the Speaker, incite hatred, and cause public disorder.
A major political row erupted on September 7 over allegations that Madhusudhan made derogatory comments against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, a Dalit leader.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had termed the alleged remarks as an “insult” to four crore people of Telangana.
However, Madhusudhan denied making any comments against the Speaker.
