Sunny Deol is back with a bang! After the roaring success of Gadar: The Katha Continues, the Bollywood action star is reportedly the top pick to play Hanuman in a brand-new musical film that promises high-octane action, epic songs, and mind-blowing stunts. Sources say the project is being fast-tracked by producer Namit Malhotra, CEO of Double Negative, and could become the next major installment in the Ramayan Universe, also known as the R-Verse.
Described internally as a “mythological-pop opera with thunderous action,” the Hanuman-focused film is expected to blend legend, music, aerial combat, flaming-torch choreography, and a 12-minute battle hymn. A source close to the project told Mid-Day, “The moment they saw the initial writing of Hanuman’s
sequences in Ramayana, the team knew he needed his own stage. And Sunny paaji’s name kept coming up because who else could play it better than him, as he is also part of the original.”
Insiders add that the film will adopt interconnected storylines similar to the Avengers franchise, with recurring characters and crossovers. “Hanuman is their Hulk — unstoppable, beloved, and built for spectacle,” the source said. If everything aligns, production could begin by late next year.
Meanwhile, Sunny Deol had earlier shared his excitement about playing Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. Posting on Instagram, he wrote, “Honoured to be part of a story that has shaped generations. Welcome to the world of Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana, the immortal story of Rama vs Ravana. Grateful to walk this path, and to share it with all of you. Let’s celebrate this moment and together, step into the @worldoframayana. Our Truth. Our History. #Ramayana #RamayanaByNamitMalhotra.”

Alongside Ramayana, Sunny Deol’s upcoming lineup includes Border 2 (January 2026), Gabru (March 13, 2026), the period drama Lahore, 1947 directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the Hindi remake of Joseph (2018) titled Soorya, the nostalgic action ensemble Baap with veteran stars, Jaat 2 (sequel to Jaat), and Coal King, currently in discussions with director Anil Sharma.
