India has a new reason to get excited about train travel as the first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train has hit the tracks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Howrah-Guwahati (Kamakhya) Vande Bharat Sleeper Train at Malda Town Railway Station on Saturday, January 17. The train is part of Indian Railways’ push to modernise long-distance journeys.
Recently, a video was shared by vlogger Yash Bajpai that gives viewers an exclusive peek at what the train’s first-class AC compartment looks like.
First Look Inside Vande Bharat Sleeper Train
Yash begins the tour by sliding open the door of one of the compartments, saying, “Vande Bharat ka first class AC kaisa dikhta hai (Let’s see how first class cabin of Vande Bharat looks like).”
The interior immediately
impresses with its modern design. The floors and ceiling look pristine, which is something rarely seen in other trains that have been in operation for decades. Each compartment has four berths with stairways to access the upper bunks. For privacy, the doors can be locked from the inside. There is also a special button that turns the opaque glass on the door transparent. This will allow passengers to see who is outside, and it can be blurred again with another press.
Sliding windows add another layer of privacy while each berth comes with its own air ventilation system, lighting and power sockets. Ergonomically designed bunks with better cushioning make the ride feel far more comfortable. And the lighting on the ceiling gives a luxury feel. The interior is so modern and well-designed that it could easily be mistaken for a 5-star hotel room.
The caption shared along with the video reads, “India first Vande Bharat sleeper train | luxury train | 5 star hotel | new India ki new train.”

Internet Love Train But Civic Sense Debate Follows
In the comments section, viewers shared their excitement about the train’s modern features. Many praised the initiative, while some also raised concerns about civic sense.
One user wrote, “Excellent train for long-distance travel.”
Another pointed out, “Now it’s people’s responsibility to use it properly.”
“Train toh dediya, civic sense kaise doge? (The train has been given, but how will civic sense be given?),” Someone else remarked while a person added, “Kitna bhi accha development kar lo, India ka jab tk civic sense nhi develop hoga, tab tk kuch nhi chal payega (No matter how good the development is, until India develops civic sense, nothing will really work).”
What To Know About The Howrah-Guwahati Vande Bharat Sleeper
The sleeper version is expected to reduce travel time by around 2.5 hours. The train has a design speed of 180 kmph and consists of 16 coaches: eleven 3-tier, four 2-tier and one first class AC. It is equipped with safety systems such as Kavach and emergency talk-back features.
The total capacity is 823 passengers: 611 in 3-tier, 188 in 2-tier and 24 in first class AC. AC 3-tier tickets start at Rs 960 for journeys up to 400 km, while AC 2-tier costs around Rs 1,240 and first class AC is about Rs 1,520. For trips nearing 1,000 km, fares range from Rs 2,400 to Rs 3,800, which is cheaper than most flight options.
Passengers can expect improved facilities, uniform staff service and transparent ticketing rules. Local cuisine will also be served on board: Assamese dishes for trains starting from Guwahati and Bengali fare for journeys beginning in Kolkata. Dinner will be provided at night, followed by morning tea, as the train is primarily an overnight service.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper is open to the general public only, with no VIP or emergency quota. Even senior railway officials cannot use railway passes to board. Only confirmed ticket holders will be allowed.
