A Korean content creator, Walter K, has gone viral after sharing a detailed Instagram video about what he called a “frightening” scam experience during his visit to Delhi. What was supposed to be a peaceful final part of his trip to India turned into a stressful encounter with an elderly man posing as a “professor.”
Walter explained that he was strolling around Connaught Place when the elderly man approached him warmly. The man introduced himself as a professor and offered to show Walter around Old Delhi, saying, “I’ll show you around Old Delhi, and when I come to Korea, you show me around.” Walter, with a wish to experience the city through a local’s perspective, agreed.

Soon, things took a strange
turn. Throughout their time together, the man made Walter pay for everything, from rickshaw rides, entry to shops and even a gurudwara visit. Whenever Walter asked him to split costs, the man refused, saying his wife would “kill” him if he spent money.
Rickshaw Drivers’ Inflated Ride Charges
The situation escalated when a rickshaw driver demanded an inflated fare of Rs 3,800 for a short ride. In his Instagram caption, he wrote, “But the bigger problem was a scammer who claimed to be a professor and later asked me for money. I almost lost $100 (around Rs 8800).”
Struggling, Walter spent nearly an hour trying to navigate the situation and he was distressed. Finally, he reached out to some Indian friends he had made during his travels. Later, locals arrived, confronted the scammer, challenged the rickshaw driver and helped Walter secure another ride. In between the moments, the elderly man fled.
Walter Highlights Experience
Thankfully, Walter recovered his money and was not physically harmed. He described the ordeal as both “scary and sad,” but also highlighted the kindness he experienced from other Indians who stepped in to help him. He added, “I struggled for nearly an hour, but thankfully, when I asked for help, some Indian friends stepped in, helped me get another rickshaw, and it ended without anything worse happening.”
Despite the negative episode, Walter chose to focus on the bigger picture. He said the number of good-hearted people he met during his trip was far more than the bad ones. In his words, “The good people I met in India were far more than the bad ones. So even with this bad memory, I will still remember India as a good country.”
The video quickly drew attention online, with many viewers expressing sympathy and calling for accountability. One user commented, “The truth is not all people are good… I am glad that you are doing fine.”
Another wrote, “Oh my god, I am so sorry for what happened. We love foreigners but he got you really bad because he knew you were alone travelling. I am so sorry for what happened.”
An individual reacted, saying, “I cried while watching this…I am really ashamed of wherever happened to you…I’m really sorry.”
Someone else apologised, writing, “I am so embarrassed as an Indian, please be assured we aren’t all the same as this person.”
